"Peace in the Storm"
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” John 14:27 (ESV)
There are some things in life that often seem out of reach—peace being one of them. It can feel like something meant for someone else, reserved for a life that isn’t quite as chaotic. Life has its storms. Some come like brief showers, while others linger like an unrelenting hurricane. Some storms hit us unexpectedly. Others are of our own making—birthed from decisions, regrets, or the inner turmoil of sin. But whatever the storm, the enemy would love nothing more than to rob us of one essential thing: peace.
That’s why the promise of Jesus in John 14:27 is so profound. It’s not just a poetic idea—it’s a spiritual reality. He offers a peace that is not like the world gives. The world’s peace is based on circumstances, feelings, and external calm. But the peace Jesus gives is rooted in Himself—it is steady, available, and powerful. It comes from the presence of the Holy Spirit living within us.
Peace isn’t the absence of trouble. It’s the presence of Jesus. It’s not about whether or not the storm is raging—it’s about who is with you in the storm. Jesus never promised a storm-free life, but He did promise a Spirit-filled one. That’s why even when things feel uncertain or overwhelming, we can rest in the truth that peace is not something we chase—it’s something we carry.
For followers of Jesus, not experiencing peace in this world is not a sign that it isn’t available—it’s often a sign that we’ve stopped looking to the One who provides it. We focus on the waves, not the Savior. We listen to the noise, not His whisper: “Peace, be still.”
So today, live in the reality, presence, and power of the peace Jesus has already given you. The storm may not pass immediately, but your heart doesn’t have to be troubled. His peace is yours—right here, right now.
Reflection Question:
What storm in your life is trying to steal your peace—and how can you refocus your heart on the presence of Jesus today?
Prayer:
Jesus, thank You for the peace that You promised. Not the peace of the world, but a peace that anchors my soul in the middle of the storm. Help me turn my eyes from the chaos around me to You. Let Your voice calm the storm inside me. Amen.
